How Do I Complete the Ideal Customer Section on My Profile?

The Ideal Customer section of your Alignable profile helps other businesses understand who you're looking to serve. When a member views your profile, this section signals whether they themselves are — or they know someone who fits — your target customer, and whether you might be a good referral source for each other.

What Is the Ideal Customer Section?

The Ideal Customer section is a part of your Alignable Business Profile where you describe the types of clients or customers your business is looking for. These are your direct buyers. It includes:

  • Customer Type — the category of customer you serve (for example, B2B or B2C)
  • Customer Location — the geographic area you serve
  • A short description of your ideal customer in your own words.
    • When someone reads this, they should understand why these people are a good customer for you, how you help them, and also make them think if they know anyone like that.
  • Tags that identify specific business types you want to reach — see How Do I Edit My Ideal Customer Tags? for tips on choosing the right ones

Why It Matters

For other members: When another Alignable member reads your Ideal Customer description, they immediately understand exactly who you work with and how you help them. This makes it easy for them to refer someone to you the moment they come across someone who fits your description. It also helps them recognize whether they themselves — or someone in their network — could benefit from your services directly. Once a relationship is established, referrals flow naturally because they already know exactly who to send your way.

For Alignable: Your Ideal Customer section tells Alignable exactly who you want to meet — so our system can surface valuable connections already in your network who match those criteria. This isn't about visibility. It's about precision. When you add ideal tags, you're training Alignable's algorithm to find your best introductions. It powers Alignable 360, Smart Connect℠ event matching, network suggestions, Allie, and much more. This is one of the most important sections of your profile — without it, you'll struggle to make meaningful connections and will have to work harder, not smarter, to build your network on Alignable.

Imagine being able to see how many matches already exist on the platform the moment you choose your tags — that's the kind of intelligence driving Alignable today.

Tips for Your Ideal Customer Tags

Be specific. "Realty Services" is better than "Real Estate." The more precise your tag, the more targeted your introductions.

Use existing tags, not custom ones. Existing tags connect you to Alignable's live data. Custom tags aren't used by anyone else, so they won't bring you results.

Aim for 8 to 12 tags. That's enough to be discoverable without diluting your focus. These tags directly influence the quality of the introductions and referrals you'll receive.
