Referrals are one of the most powerful ways to grow your business on Alignable. Your "Businesses We Can Partner With" tags describe the types of businesses you'd like to collaborate with — not as customers, but as strategic partners or referral sources. These tags should describe those businesses that share your client base but are not your competitors.
What Are "Businesses We Can Partner With" Tags?
These tags identify businesses you're open to partnering with or referring your clients to. For example, a real estate agent might tag "Mortgage Brokers," "Home Inspectors," and "Interior Designers" — businesses that serve the same clients and make natural referral partners.
Tips for Choosing the Right Tags
Be specific. Think about the types of businesses whose clients could benefit from your services — and whose services your clients might need. The more precise your tags, the better your match quality.
Avoid broad terms like "Businesses," "Small Businesses," or "Entrepreneurs." These describe every member on Alignable and won't help you attract the right referral partners.
Pro Tip: Always choose from the pre-populated tags — never use the "+Add [insert your text here]" option. Custom tags are not connected to Alignable's database, which means no one else on Alignable is using them. A tag no one else is using won't bring you results.
Why They Matter
Members looking for referral partnerships browse profiles to see who's open to working together. Having clear partnership tags signals your referral preferences and increases the chance that the right complementary businesses reach out.
These tags are also how Alignable's intelligence engine makes the right suggestions for you — matching you with the right members in Smart Connect℠ events, recommending events worth attending, and surfacing relevant connection opportunities.
You will also see these tags at work in Alignable 360. You will see all of your potential referral partners and how many of your ideal customers they know. This is how referral networks are built, through introductions by referral partners, not just cold outreach. Allie, Alignable's AI assistant, uses your tags to help you deepen relationships within your existing network.
When You Might Update Them
Consider revisiting your partnership tags if:
- You've developed new referral relationships and want to attract more like them
- You've entered a new niche and need complementary partners in that space
- Your current tags no longer reflect the kinds of businesses you'd refer clients to
- Your current tags are too broad and the results they are bringing you are too diluted
