Your Ideal Customer tags help Alignable as well as other members quickly understand who you're looking to work with. When someone views your profile, they can see at a glance whether your services are a match for their business — saving time for both of you.
What Are Ideal Customer Tags?
Ideal Customer tags describe the types of businesses you want as clients or customers. These are your direct buyers. For example, a bookkeeper might tag "Restaurants," "Retail Shops," and "Freelancers" to signal who they most want to serve.
Tips for Choosing the Right Tags
Be specific. Think about the types of businesses that are most likely to buy from you. The more precise your tags, the better your match quality.
Avoid broad terms like "Businesses," "Small Businesses," or "Entrepreneurs." These describe every member on Alignable and won't help you attract the right clients.
Pro Tip: Always choose from the pre-populated tags — never use the "+Add [insert your text here]" option. Custom tags are not connected to Alignable's database, which means no one else on Alignable is using them. A tag no one else is using won't bring you results.
Why They Matter
When a business owner is considering reaching out, they're more likely to do so when they can see that you work with businesses like theirs or businesses that they already work with. Clear Ideal Customer tags also help Alignable recommend your profile to the right people, so the right prospects find you more easily.
These tags are also how Alignable's intelligence engine makes the right suggestions for you — matching you with the right members in Smart Connect℠ events, recommending events worth attending, and surfacing relevant connection opportunities.
You will also see these tags at work in Alignable 360. You will see all of your potential referral partners and how many of your ideal customers they know. This is how referral networks are built, through introductions by referral partners, not just cold outreach. Allie, Alignable's AI assistant, uses your tags to help you deepen relationships within your existing network.
When You Might Update Them

- Your target market has changed
- You've niched down to focus on a specific industry
- You've expanded your services and want to reach a broader audience
- Your current tags no longer reflect your clientele
- Your current tags are too broad and the results they are bringing you are too diluted
