Your Category Tag and Featured Tags are some of the most visible signals on your Alignable profile. They appear next to your business name throughout the platform and on your Referral Card when it's sent to both members and non-members — so getting them right makes a real difference.
What Are Category and Featured Tags?
Your Category Tag defines your industry — it's the primary type of business you run (for example, "Marketing Agency" or "Financial Advisor"). You can have one Category Tag.
Your Featured Tags highlight what you specialize in within that category (for example, "SEO Optimization" or "Website Design"). You can have up to two Featured Tags.
If you are a Premium or Premium+ member, you also get an additional set of Search Tags that increase your visibility and help members find you in searches across Alignable.
Tips for Choosing the Right Tags
Be specific, and keep your tags industry- and business-driven. Think about what a potential client or partner would search for when looking for a business like yours. Good examples include:
- Marketing Agency
- Marketing & Advertising Services
- SEO Optimization
- Website Design
- Website Optimization
Demographic information, religious affiliations, and personal descriptions don't work well as tags here — stick to what describes your business and the services you offer.
Avoid broad terms like "Businesses," "Small Businesses," or "Entrepreneurs." These describe every member on Alignable and won't help you stand out or get found by the right people.
Why They Matter
When members browse Alignable, your Category and Featured Tags are often the first thing they see. They give people an instant sense of what you do and help Alignable surface your business in relevant searches and suggested businesses. Your Category tag also follows you into events to describe what you do. They also appear on your Referral Card when it's sent to both members and non-members, so they're working to represent your business even when you're not actively on the platform.

When You Might Update Them
Consider revisiting your Category and Featured Tags if:
- You've shifted your business focus or added a new specialization
- You want to test different positioning to attract a different type of client
- Your original tags no longer reflect what you currently do
How to Edit Your Category and Featured Tags
- Go to Your Business Profile.
- Click Edit Profile.
- At the top of your profile, scroll down to find the Category Tag, Featured Tags, and Search Tags fields.
- Click the X on the existing tag to delete.
- A text box will appear — type in your new tag.
- Once you have edited the tags you'd like to change, click Save.
