A recommendation on Alignable is more than a courtesy. It is social proof. Recommendations appear on the business's profile for every member who visits to see, and they also appear on your profile as businesses you have personally endorsed. That means your name and reputation are attached to every recommendation you write. A genuine, well-written recommendation builds trust for the business you are recommending and reflects your own credibility as a member.
Who You Should Recommend
Only recommend businesses you genuinely know — people you have worked with, hired, partnered with, or built a real relationship with on Alignable. Do not recommend businesses you have not interacted with, and never send a recommendation without text. A blank or generic recommendation does nothing for the person receiving it and nothing for your reputation as someone whose word means something.
What Makes a Great Recommendation
The best recommendations are specific, genuine, and tell a story. Mention how you know the person, what you experienced working with or knowing them, and what makes them stand out. If you have worked with them directly, speak to their work ethic, attention to detail, skills, or the quality of their results. If you have a relationship but have not worked together, speak to who they are as a person and why they are worth knowing.
Examples of what not to write: "Great business." "Good." "Amy is awesome."
Example of a great recommendation:
"Amy Davala is one of those people who truly makes a difference behind the scenes while helping keep the Alignable community supportive, professional, and a great place for all of us to build real relationships. She genuinely goes above and beyond to help people, and that alone makes her someone worth knowing. Then somehow she also manages to be connected to 5280 Watch Company, where craftsmanship is taken to a whole different level. These are not your average 'grab one at the mall' watches. The detail, artistry, and hand crafted work behind each piece is incredible. I will admit, owning one has officially made its way onto my goal list. Amy is the kind of person who brings passion, professionalism, and heart into everything she does. I'm grateful we connected, and I highly recommend others do the same."
The difference is specificity and genuine voice. Anyone can say "great business." Only someone who actually knows the person can write a recommendation that tells a real story and means something to the people reading it.
