Your network is most valuable when it is made up of people who are actively engaged and relevant to your business. Removing connections you no longer need helps you keep your network focused and meaningful.
When Should I Remove a Connection?
Consider removing a connection if any of the following apply:
- You accepted the request by mistake
- The person has been sending spam or unwanted messages
- They are no longer relevant to your business or goals
- They have stopped responding to messages or engaging with you
- You want to keep your network limited to active members who can help move your business forward — it does no good to collect connections you never talk to
If someone has been spamming you or behaving inappropriately, consider blocking them instead of just removing them. Blocking prevents them from sending you a new connection request. See How Do I Block Someone on Alignable?
How Do I Remove a Connection?
- Go to your My Network page
- Find the connection you want to remove under the Connections tab
- Click on their name to go to their profile
- Click the three dots to the right of the Refer button
- Select Remove Connection from the dropdown
- Click Yes in the confirmation window
The person is not notified when they are removed. However, if they visit your profile, they will see the option to reconnect and can send you a new connection request.
Can I Cancel a Connection Request I Already Sent?
No — once a connection request is sent, it cannot be rescinded. The request counts as used and cannot be retrieved. If you no longer want to be connected to someone you sent a request to, wait for them to accept it, then follow the steps above to remove the connection.
