Getting Started: Complete Your Profile

Being new to anything can be a bit overwhelming, so we put together this guide to help get you started.

Alignable is here to make networking more efficient for you, and just like networking in-person, first impressions matter, especially when it comes to referrals. Below you’ll find easy-to-follow steps to complete your trusted business profile, which will serve as your “first impression” when networking with fellow business owners here on Alignable. Let’s go!

The first step to completing your profile is to fill out your logo and banner images. To do so, you will first need to go to your profile. You can access your profile by clicking on the “My Business” tab on the left navigation menu of the site:

Once one your profile you should see the following (see image). Click on the camera icon.  



A popup will appear. Here, click “Browse For A File” to choose the image you would like to have as your logo. Try to make the image a square image no bigger than 5MB in size. If you have any trouble while uploading the images to your profile, you can email success@alignable.com and they should be sure to help you further.

 

Once you have uploaded the image, resize the image accordingly by moving left or right the bottom cursor. Once happy with the sizing of the image, click “Save”.

  

Once you click “Save”, your profile will refresh and your logo should appear as seen below:

How to add your profile banner?

Access your profile by clicking on the “My Business” tab on the left navigation menu of the site:



To add a banner image, click on the top grey banner on the top of your profile:


A popup will appear. Here, click “Browse for file” to choose the image you would like to have as your banner. Try to make the image a square image no bigger than 5MB in size. If you have any trouble while uploading the images to your profile, you can email success@alignable.com and they should be sure to help you further.

2. About Us Information 
How to Fill Out Your Ideal Customer?

To fill out your Ideal Customer section click on the “+ Add” button on the right of the “Ideal Customer” section:

There a popup will appear. Write in your business's ideal customer. In Alignable’s case, our ideal member for the site are “Small and Local Business”. Once you have typed in your Ideal Customer, click “Save” at the bottom of the popup:



How to fill out the “About Us”, “How We Got Started” & "Year Established" sections of the profile?

You can click on the “+ Add” button on the “About Us” section of your profile to edit both sections:

Fill out the “About Us”, “How We Got Started” and the “Year Established” sections with the appropriate information. Click “Save”.

3. Business Tags

What are Business Tags and why do I need them on my profile?

Tags on your profile are meant to allow you to make more meaningful local connections on Alignable. When you add tags relating to what your business does and what it is about, our system will use these to show you businesses in your community who relate to your business and thus allow you to create more meaningful connections and thus referrals for your business.

How to edit or add tags on my profile?

To add or edit tags you can click on the blue pencil button on the top of the tags section. Here you can search for tags relating to your business.

Click the blue pencil button next to "Business Tags" to search for an appropriate tag. Keep in mind that tags are pre-determined and you cannot add custom tags at this time:

4. Products & Services

Why do I need to add my Products & Services?

Make sure to fill out your Products & Services section of your profile as they will be shared with your Alignable Network and all nearby businesses via the “Word of Mouth” page. If there is another business in your community that is interested in your products or services, they can search within this page to find them. The more and better looking your products and services the more people will find your business and thus create more referrals for your business as well.

How do I add my Products & Services to my profile?

To add your products and services to your profile access your profile by clicking on the “My Business” tab on the left navigation menu of the site:

Once there, scroll down to the “Products & Services” section of your profile (see image below). Click on  “+ Add” on the right side.

Once you click on “+ Add”, a popup will appear where you need to fill out all of the information regarding your product and services (see image below). You need to add a Title, Description and a Photo.

Once you have filled out your product or service, click on “Create” at the bottom of the popup.

You will receive a confirmation page as seen below:

5. Business Contact Information

How do I add my contact information to my profile?

One of the most important sections of your profile is the contact information section. In this section you can add your website, a phone number, a link to your Business Facebook Page and your business address. When you first create your account, some of this information may be already filled out depending on if you connected your Facebook Business Page to your profile.

Business Address

Your business address always appears on your profile. The reason for this is because we base which businesses are nearby to yours based on your business's location. Also, the location you set on your profile determines the Community to which your business is assigned to. If you are worried about your address being available to the public, you can also choose to partially hide this address. Please see instructions below on how to edit or hide your address:

How to edit or partially hide your business address?

To edit your business address, just click on the blue pencil that says “edit” on the right hand side of your address. Once clicked, it will open a popup as seen below. If you would like to hide your address, click on the check box highlighted in red (this will hide your street address only).

How to add your website, phone number and connect your Facebook Page?

You can add your website, phone number and Facebook page in the same popup as where you add your business address. If you scroll to the bottom of the popup, you will see form fields for your website, phone number and Facebook page. Fill them out accordingly.

To connect your Facebook page, make sure to add your Business Facebook page URL as see in the image below:



After saving everything, this section of your profile should contain all of your contact information and look something like this.

6. Events & Promotions

Why should I add Events & Promotions?

When you add an event or promotion onto your profile, such will be shared with everyone of your connections on Alignable. It will also be shared with everyone in your Community via the “Word of Mouth” page and the “My Community” pages. There businesses in your community can view the events and promotions being held by your business during a specific time period.

Although the Events & Promotions are not directly shared with your ideal customer if you are a B2C business, adding your events and promotions to your profile allows for other businesses on Alignable to see them which, if possible they can choose to reach out to you to partner with you on such promotion or event that your business is running, creating a co-marketing opportunity.

How do I add Events & Promotions to my profile?

To add events and promotions to your profile, go to the “Events & Promotions” section of your profile and click on “+ Add” on the right side of the section:


Once you click on “+ Add”, a popup will appear as seen in the image below. Here you will be able to add a title, description and a logo, as well as where and when the event will be held, and whether the event or promotion is a B2B or B2C event. You will only be given the choice to add a time of the event if the event starts and ends on the same day. If they start and end on different days then this option will be hidden.

Once done filling out your event or promotion, click “Create” to save to your profile.



Once created, the event or promotion will appear on your profile as such:

7. Recommendations

Why should I have recommendations on my profile?

Recommendations are one of the main drivers of referrals on Alignable. When you have recommendations on your profile, other Alignable members can see that you are trusted and referred by other local businesses in your community and will be even more attracted to contact and potentially hire your business.


On Alignable, you can be marked with a highly recommended business badge when you have more than 5 recommendations on your profile (see image below):

Within your community, other members can see how you stack up as a highly recommended business versus other businesses in your community while on the “My Community” page (see image below):

What is the best way to get recommendations on my profile?

The best and quickest way we suggest to get recommendations on your profile is by having people you already trust or know you to give your business a recommendation. How do you find out who is on Alignable that you know that can give your business a recommendation?

In the section below, you will be able to see how to import your email or LinkedIn address book. The goal is that, once your address book is uploaded, we will be able to show you, based on the contacts that you uploaded, who is on Alignable that you already know and connect with to ask for recommendations, and who is not on Alignable that you can invite to join Alignable so that they can leave you a recommendation as well.

This happens because our system is able to match the email address of those businesses you uploaded with those in our system that have an account. Once connected with these businesses, not only can you exchange recommendations, but you also open up all of their network for far more 2nd hand connections and thus more referral opportunities for your business.

How do I import my LinkedIn Address Book?

There are three main steps to importing your LinkedIn Address book as you can see below:

Step #1: Go to LinkedIn to download your archive file containing your LinkedIn address book.

You can go to the link to download the file via the link below:

Step #2: Request your Archive File 

This link will take you to your LinkedIn account where you can get an archive. To download your LinkedIn Address Book, click on "Connections" as seen in the image below. Click on "Request Archive".

LinkedIn may ask you to verify your password, as shown below. Once you enter your password, click on the "Done" button.

Once you confirm your password, the below "Saved" confirmation will appear and the button will turn gray. This means that LinkedIn will send you an email so that you can download the archive.

LinkedIn will then email you your contacts, which may take a minute or two. If you're using Gmail, make sure to check all of your mail tabs, including "social" and "promotions" if you don't see the email in your "primary" tab.

The actual email from LinkedIn will look like this (see image below). Click the "download it with this link" to access your LinkedIn Address Book.

That link will bring you back to LinkedIn, where you can download your data! Just click the "download" button.

The download should just take a few seconds, and once complete you can move the downloaded folder to your desktop. It will look as follows:

Step #3: Upload the Archive File to Alignable so that we can show you who you already know that is on Alignable.

You can go back to the upload page to upload your LinkedIn zip file via the link below:

Select your LinkedIn file and click the "open" button.

When you click "open" we'll then start uploading your contacts for you.

As we upload your contacts, we'll automatically match them against our database of millions of business owners.

After a few seconds, we'll then show you all of the businesses you already know that are on Alignable already (marked with a “Connect” button) and those who are not on Alignable that you can invite to join (marked with an “Invite” button).

You can pick and choose who you choose to connect and invite with. You also have the option to Connect and Invite all of your LinkedIn address book by clicking on “Add All Your Contacts” button at the top. Or lastly, you can choose not connect or invite with anyone by clicking on “Maybe Later” in blue. Keep in mind that when you do pick who you would like to connect with, the “Maybe Later” button will change to “Next Step”.

To invite people who are not on Alignable, simply click the "invite" button next to their information, or click the "Add All Your Contacts" to easily invite all.

This will send an invite to your contacts on your behalf, asking them to join you in networking on Alignable. When contacts you invite join Alignable, we automatically ask them to recommend you too as an added bonus!

How do I Import my Email Address Book?

To import your Email Address Book you need to go the link below:

When you click on the link to import your email address book, you will see the page below:

Your email will be automatically populated into the email field, however, you have the option to change the email from which you would like to import your address book from. We would recommend to import the address book from the email which you use to do business with.

Once you have chosen the email, click on “Show Me” on the right side of the page. This link will redirect you to login into your email account as seen in the image below. Login using the email and password that you would use to login into your email account.

If you are worried as to why we are asking you to login into your email account, don’t be! Although you are signing into your email account, we do not have access to such login information as you would be logging in directly with your email provider. This process is just a means for you to import your email address book.

Once you click “Allow”, our system will start the import process and start matching the email addresses in your address book with the businesses who have joined Alignable in our system (see image below):

After a few seconds, we'll then show you all of the businesses you already know that are on Alignable already (marked with a “Connect” button) and those who are not on Alignable that you can invite to join (marked with an “Invite” button).

You can pick and choose who you choose to connect and invite with. You also have the option to Connect and Invite all of your LinkedIn address book by clicking on “Add All Your Contacts” button at the top. Or lastly, you can choose not connect or invite with anyone by clicking on “Maybe Later” in blue. How do I recommend other businesses on Alignable?

To recommend businesses on Alignable, scroll to the “Businesses We Recommend” section of your profile and click “+ Add”. This will take you to the page as seen below:

Type in the name of the Alignable Business member you would like to recommend. A list of options will appear as seen below. Click the business you would like to recommend:

A field will appear for you to write in a recommendation of that business, once you have finished typing the recommendation, click on “Recommend” on the purple button to the right side to send the recommendation.

How do I get the recommendations that I have received onto my profile?

Once your business is recommended or you recommend another business, those recommendations need to be approved by the recommended business in order for them to appear on their profile.

To manage your recommendations go to Edit Recommendations page via the link below:

You can also find this page by going to the left navigation menu and clicking “Recommendations” under “My Business”.

Once on the page, you will see the image below. Here you can approve or claim recommendations, edit recommendations you have given and see the recommendations that are currently on your profile.
